Ryon Schultz

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Ryon Schultz’s musical expedition embarked at the youthful age of 13. This is when he first picked up the saxophone in the middle school band. “I found myself devoted to the saxophone the first day I got it. I felt a prestigious connection with it from day one.” Ryon began to practice for hours every day after school, and he began to listen to many of his favorite musical artists he still loves today. Ryon officially started his musical career by the age of 19. He was presented the opportunity with National Recording Artist, Eric Darius at the 2014 Seabreeze Jazz Festival afterparty. This landed him the opportunity to also play with Brian Culbertson during the same week. Being able to play during this time was a liberating and challenging, but an opportune time. This landed the attention of many talented professionals in the jazz industry. “Some of my musical influences are Prince, Eric Darius, Marcus Anderson, Brian Culbertson, Jackiem Joyner, Carlos Santana, Trombone Shorty, Grover Washington, The Police, Earth, Wind, and Fire, amongst several more. Now at the age of 29, I have progressed my development by having my own headline performances. I’m humbled by the amazing artists I have had the pleasure to join and play with on stage-- Eric Darius, Brian Culbertson, Marcus Anderson, James Lloyd from Pieces of a Dream, Julian Vaughn, Jackiem Joyner, and several others. I wish to exhibit to the younger generation it’s absolutely possible. There is more than just rap and hip-hop for us. I strive to be the crossover appeal and lend a hand to that generation so they can appreciate without a doubt: good music.”
